Infant and Toddler Language and Literacy Promotion Project
Closing the achievement gap by enhancing language development in infants and toddlersBecause early language and literacy development is a key component of preparing children for school, the Ounce of Prevention Fund developed the Infant and Toddler Language and Literacy Promotion Project at Educare of Chicago. The ongoing program prioritizes teacher training and implements strategies - such as family literacy events and distributing books to children - that improve the language and vocabulary of infants and toddlers.
Initial results indicate that the program is helping the majority of Educare children meet or exceed national averages on standardized tests of language development and school readiness.
Private funding allows us to develop and test new approaches, like the Infant and Toddler Language and Literacy Promotion Project, for educating at-risk children. To learn more about or to support this project, please contact Barbara Hoffman, Director of Development, at 312.453.1930.
This project is generously supported by the Polk Bros. Foundation, the Chauncey and Marion D. McCormick Family Foundation, and The Pritzker Children's Initiative.
