Educare Follow-Up Study
Closing the achievement gap by preparing at-risk children for success in kindergarten and beyondThe Educare Follow-Up Study assesses the school readiness and success of children who have transitioned from Educare of Chicago into kindergarten and through elementary school. The Ounce of Prevention Fund uses the results of the study to ensure that the Educare model is most effectively meeting the needs of at-risk children and families, and to improve the delivery of our program services.
Recent findings from the ongoing study show that the majority of Educare of Chicago graduates are deemed "ready" for kindergarten and elementary school - socially, emotionally, and academically - by their parents and teachers. By comparison, studies have found that as many as 34% of children from low-income communities demonstrate behavioral problems upon their transition to kindergarten.
Results of the Follow-Up Study have led to new initiatives at Educare, such as support programs that help parents enroll their children in high-quality elementary schools, and the development of the Early Math Initiative.
Private funding is essential to evaluating our Educare model and implementing improvements. To learn more about or to support this project, please contact Barbara Hoffman, Director of Development, at 312.453.1930.
