Get Involved with the Ounce of Prevention Fund

20th Anniversary Dinner

On September 22, 2003, nearly 400 friends, colleagues, policymakers, and longtime staff members celebrated the Ounce of Prevention Fund's 20 years of leading the charge and spreading the word about the importance of intervening early in the lives of impoverished children.

The evening included remarks from Ounce co-founder Irving B. Harris, who acknowledged the partnership between the public and private sectors as the key to the Ounce's longtime success.

Jack Shonkoff, M.D., Dean of the Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, provided the keynote address, reporting on the present state of early childhood in America. The report Science, Policy and the Young Developing Child is an expansion of his remarks.

Ounce Chairman, Bob Heaton, provided a fitting conclusion to the evening by presenting a video featuring the day-to-day interactions between Ounce staff and the families we serve.
