Maternal and Child Health
The Ounce of Prevention Fund focuses on the healthy development of children from the very earliest stages of life. A child who enters kindergarten healthy will be better able to focus and learn in school.
The Ounce advocates to strengthen the delivery of preventive health and developmental services for young children in pediatric and primary health-care settings.
We also advocate for low-income pregnant women to have access to prenatal visits, child birth education, nutrition counseling, and screening for postpartum depression.
Illinois
The Ounce advocates for expanded health care coverage to all Illinois children and pregnant women. We support the Illinois All Kids healthcare program and Illinois Health Connect, the initiative to create better medical access for young children and their families.
We successfully advocated for the Perinatal Mental Health Disorders Prevention and Treatment Act of 2008, which sought to promote early detection and treatment of maternal depression during and after pregnancy.
