Early Learning Council
Illinois lawmakers took a major step toward establishing a statewide, high-quality early childhood system by creating the Illinois Early Learning Council in 2003. Harriet Meyer, past president of the Ounce of Prevention Fund , co-chairs the Council.
The Council's goal is to meet the early learning needs of all children, from birth to age five, and their families by establishing a high-quality, comprehensive, statewide learning system. The Council guides efforts to coordinate, improve, and expand existing early childhood programs and services, including making use of existing reports, research, and planning efforts.
