POSITION SUMMARY:
The Early Head Start Doula Home Visitor Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that pregnant women and their families receive comprehensive home visiting and doula services to ensure the optimal development of pregnant women and their new born babies. The EHS Doula Home Visitor Supervisor ensures that strength-based relationships are developed with every pregnant woman and ensures compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards. Accurate and timely documentation of these services in family files and within the OPF, MIS system is included in the oversight responsibilities. In addition, the integration and supervision of the DOULA component of this program is key to the programs success, Further, the Supervisor will work and participate in relevant meetings with other OPF staff involved in Home Visiting and Doula services. The EHS Doula Home Visitor Supervisor will provide direct services to a caseload of six pregnant women.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Early Head Start Doula Home Visitor Supervisor will report to and work closely with the Director of Program Operations. The EHS Doula Home Visitor Supervisor will supervise the EHS Doula Home Visitors.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS:
- Oversee the recruitment, enrollment and maintenance of waiting lists for the program
- Provide regular, individual Reflective Supervise to the EHS Doula Home Visitors
- Provide ongoing support and guidance regarding the mental health and developmental needs of pregnant women
- Maintain a caseload of six pregnant women
- Ensure the EHS Services for Pregnant Women standards along with appropriate Head Start Program Performance Standards are in compliance
- Support Home Visitors in partnering with pregnant women to enable the successful completion of Family Partnership goals
- Support staff in obtaining the needed community resource services and linkages for pregnant women
- Ensure that Home Visitors assist families in accessing and documenting all needed health services including pre-natal visits and well child check ups
- Conduct periodic home visits to observe, model and support the EHS Doula Home Visitors
- Work within the guidance of DONAs scope of practice and code of ethics. Refer to the DONA web site www.DONA.org
- Conduct team meetings at least monthly to promote mutual support and effective teamwork
- In conjunction with the Director of Program Operations work with staff at the EHS Cluster sites to support children and families smooth transition into center based or home based services
- In conjunction with the Director of Program Operations build relationships and establish procedures with hospitals to ensure the success of the Doula services support to pregnant women during labor and delivery
- Oversee the coordinator of mental health, nutrition, health, disabilities and other consultation services
- Participate in fiscal planning for the program including monitoring expenditures, in-kind and volunteer contributions
- Participate in planning the professional development activities of the Doula Home Visitors including Doula training, conferences, workshops and IBTI trainings
- Complete required program reports and ensures up to date program files for each pregnant woman in the program
- Complete annual performance appraisals on each Doula Home Visitor
- Participate in EHS Self-Assessment and Federal Reviews
- Represent the program at community and professional events
- Participate in Research planning and evaluation
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job description
EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education or related field. Masters Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education or related field preferred. Licensure desirable
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience or related practice required preferably in home visiting, prenatal programs and/or teen parent
- Experience conducting home visits
- Ability to utilize and provide reflective supervision
- Experience in case management and developing family service plans
- Knowledge of principles and practices of infant and child development and family practice
- Ability to help staff develop skills in the use of themselves as available attachment figures for pregnant women; ability to support staff as they assist pregnant women in identifying resources, needs and setting goals
- Ability to develop community collaborations so pregnant women and their families receive comprehensive services
- Ability to work within and supervise a team as a cooperative and supportive team member
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of computer
- Comfortable with modeling home visits
- Available on call 24 hours for labor and delivery
- Skilled at forming professional relationships with families, staff and community partners
- Skilled at leadership and conflict resolution
- Knowledgeable about Head Start and EHS guidelines
- Ability to travel between sites and community agencies, make home visits, climb stairs
