POSITION SUMMARY:
The Curriculum Specialist in direct collaboration with the Director of Program and Curriculum is responsible for the project management and implementation of current and new program enhancements to our existing educational curriculum at Educare. The Curriculum Specialist will partner with the Master Teachers to promote advanced outcomes for children. This position will support parents in their interactions with children by providing educational opportunities and information that will strengthen family engagement.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Curriculum Specialist reports directly to the Director of Program and Curriculum.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS:
- Education/Curriculum
- In coordination with program staff develop, coordinate and implement as appropriate family literacy and math activities for parents , their children, and other family members
- Facilitate the implementation of the Arts Project
- Implement Response to Intervention with individual and small groups
- Conduct specialized small learning groups for children (for example boys, children transitioning to kindergarten)
- Support the implementation of the UCCS and Ounce partnership
- Work in coordination with the Master Teachers to refine and formalize our transition process
- Provide project design, project management, integration and implementation of various educational initiatives
- Facilitate the work of Volunteers in the classrooms
- Conduct Shared Perspective Groups with Teaching Staff
- Conduct training for education staff
- Support program training by providing coaching and mentoring for classroom teaching staff
- Utilize data information to support coaching and mentoring for classroom teaching staff
- Conduct Reflective groups for teachers
- Assist in the facilitation of the Video Groups
- Support the use of the Resource Room by Teachers
- Provide curriculum enhancement support to teachers i.e. Resource materials, study ideas, storytelling
- Administration
- Ensure all assigned program reports are completed and submitted on a timely basis
- Conduct timely feedback sessions to Master Teachers and classroom teams
- Ensure all mandates of Head Start performance standards, State and local licensing and other funders are met
- Ensure all confidential information is protected
- Participate in recruitment efforts of the program to help maintain full program enrollment
- Attend all required meetings and trainings
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job description
EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS:
- Masters degree in Early Childhood Education required;
- Training, mentor/coaching experience required;
- Infant/Toddler certification or Infant/Toddler credential required;
- Knowledge of Early Head Start/Head Start preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of literacy and math concepts and practices for 0-5 children
- Knowledge of and ability to implement early childhood curriculum and developmentally appropriate practice for the specific age group (0-3 or 3-5) and be able to remain abreast of developments in the child development field
- Ability to work effectively with adult learners
- Ability to work with a wide variety of persons, professionals, and community groups
- Ability to work well in a team
- Ability to be sensitive to family situations and have a desire to contribute to the educational growth of parents and children
- Good analytical skills and the ability to learn new materials quickly
- Experience in working with culturally diverse populations
